Obituary of Alan Robert Constance

Alan "Al" Robert Constance of Redford Township, Michigan, passed away on September 27, 2019. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 9, 1953, second son of Robert and Helen Constance. Al grew up in Redford Township with his three brothers, Patrick (PC), Gerald (Jerry), and Rick (Bronk), graduating from Thurston High School in 1971. A member of the Carpenters Union, Al worked as a rough carpenter for most of his life. He also did various types of construction work in the Detroit Metro Area and in Dallas, Texas. He worked for Bronk Enterprise, Inc. (Ann Arbor), alongside his brothers, Jerry and PC, for thirty years. He loved the outdoors, and in his spare time he enjoyed fishing and muzzle-loading deer hunting. A talented woodsmith, Al hand-carved soft wood into beautiful human images in sizes ranging from Christmas ornaments to totem poles. Always the life of the party, Al was full of vibrant energy and a master of understated humor, pulling a quick quip that got everyone laughing at just the right moment. He loved to tell stories and engage an audience; he could always be found with a circle of friends, laughing, with a beer in his hand. He was a kind and generous person, always helping his neighbors and friends, and he cared for his mother, Helen, after the death of his father in July of 2000. A family oriented person, he was overjoyed to learn late in life about the existence of his daughter, Jolinda Glasco, of Garland, TX, and spent the last five years getting to know her better.

He is survived by his long time partner, Judy Holland; his daughter, Jolinda Glasco; his mother, Helen; his brothers, PC, Jerry, and Rick; his cousin, Patricia Smothermon, his nieces, Rachel Constance and Wendy (Justin) Buckles, and two great-nieces, Zelda (Rachel) Littleton and Maya (Wendy) Buckles, and one great-nephew, Evan (Wendy) Buckles. He also had several cousins.

While there will be no official memorial service, a celebration of Als life will take place during the month of October.
