Arthur Duane Rose Jr., born November 18, 1945, in North Carolina, passed away on April 27, 2025, at home in Michigan, after courageously battling ALS for four years. Raised in Marshall, Minnesota, Duane cherished his childhood, spending time in his family's florist and nursery business, Bud Rose Flowers, with his parents and two sisters. Summers and family visits in North Carolina were highlights of his youth.
Duane pursued a Biology degree at the University of Minnesota Morris and conducted graduate research at the University of Kentucky, where he met his wife, Janice Marcinek. The couple later moved to Michigan, where Duane worked in metallurgy and continued studies at the University of Michigan. They married in 1974, welcoming three children and their spouses: Devon (Bill Kinney), Trey (Allison Frantz), and Charlotte (Josh Fiorini), and later, grandchildren Liam, Claire, Margot, and Rory.
A passionate sailor, Duane found joy and community in racing, especially in the Port Huron to Mackinac race. He started Climax Research Services and was instrumental in building its new facility. Duane's involvement extended to supporting his children in athletics and sharing home-grown produce with loved ones.
Despite the challenges of ALS, Duane cherished time with his family, especially his devoted wife of over 50 years, Janice. His modest, caring nature and intellectual curiosity were hallmarks of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and family devotion.
In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the "Rose Memorial for Junior Sailing" at Crescent Sail Yacht Club or ALS Association of Michigan, honoring Duane's love for sailing and gratitude for the assistance he received.
