Audrey Alison McKenna

Audrey Alison McKenna, age 63, of Roseville, MI, passed away well-loved at home on Monday, February 16, 2026. Audrey was born in Dublin, Ireland on October 25, 1962, to James and Mary Ann McKenna. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1994 after taking some time off from her studies to work professionally. Audrey is a 1980 high school graduate of Detroit Waldorf School where, among other things, she learned to weave. She and her husband, Robert Decker, were married for 28 years and resided together in Roseville with the joyful companionship of dogs Luigi (deceased) and Jack.

Audrey was generous in all things, truly curious about life, and lived with unwavering support for anything or anyone she believed in. Solidarity and labor rights were central to Audrey’s life, shaping her values and her career. A member of the Newspaper Guild of Detroit Local 22, she met her husband Rob while striking on the picket line. Later as a long-time employee of the UAW, she served as steward and as Vice-President of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 494.

From an early age, Audrey embraced pop culture and all things current. She loved Shakespeare, the ocean, road trips, rescue dogs and stray cats, books, television and cinema. A proud lifetime member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association, Audrey was also a docent at the Motown Museum in downtown Detroit. As a skilled photographer she faithfully and brilliantly chronicled the life of her co-workers, friends, and family.

In addition to her husband, Audrey is survived by her mother Mary Ann McKenna of Chesterfield, MI, her siblings and their spouses: James (Suzanne) McKenna V of St. Clair Shores, MI, Patrick McKenna of Chesterfield, MI, and Bonnie (John Weidemann) McKenna of Montclair, NJ; her beloved mother- and father-in-law Robert and Kathlyn Decker of Imlay, MI and sister-in-law Karen DeCew of Allenton, MI; and her Decker and McKenna nieces. Audrey is pre-deceased by her father, James McKenna (2012) and brother-in-law Mark Haas (2017).

Audrey made the world a better place and her wit and warmth are greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to an animal care charity of your choice. A celebration of Audrey’s life is planned.
