Carmen Maria Meyers (née Ferriole)
81, of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan
November 13, 1943 - June 23, 2025
Born to Eleanor and James Ferriole, Carmen grew up in Detroit and later dedicated her professional life to helping others as a registered nurse in Labor & Delivery at Hutzel Women’s Hospital. She was known by her medical colleagues and patients as the nurse you wanted at your side during a hospital stay. She supported and comforted countless mothers and newborns throughout her career—and kept her co-workers entertained with her energy and humor.
Carmen brought just as much purpose to her life outside of work. One of her greatest joys was her involvement in the Greater Detroit Jazz Society, where her friendly nature earned her recognition as the organization’s “Public Relations Director.” She was a dedicated volunteer for over 15 years, serving as door greeter for countless concerts and events. She was also a familiar face at neighborhood yoga classes and at the Windmill Pointe Park fitness center. While she loved music and staying active, her true reward was the sense of community and friendships she developed in these spaces.
Carmen was incredibly devoted to her family, known for her generosity and her constant care for those around her. She had a deep love for animals, especially the cats that were her cherished companions over the years. Her devotion as a daughter, sister, and aunt was matched only by her unwavering commitment as a mother. She was a constant presence at her son’s school plays and football games as he was growing up, and she remained his biggest supporter throughout the years.
She is survived by her son Zach (Kim), her brother James (Vanessa), and an extended family that includes many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings John and Jackie (Ronald).
A celebration of Carmen’s life will be held at a later date; details will be shared with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carmen’s memory may be made to A ReJoyceFul Animal Rescue, the Greater Detroit Jazz Society, or the Grosse Pointe Park Foundation.
