Charles Milton “Skip” Armstrong, age 84, of Dearborn, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025.
Skip was the beloved husband of Susan (Anderson) Armstrong, and a devoted father to Alexis (Joel) Barthlow and Melissia (Patrick) Ripley. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Beckham, Myles, and Lydia Barthlow, and Molly and William Ripley.
Born to Marjorie (Meier) and Arthur Armstrong, Skip grew up in Royal Oak, MI. He graduated from Royal Oak Kimball High School in 1960, where he earned an impressive 12 varsity letters in track, cross country, and swimming — the school’s highest athletic honor. He spent his childhood summers on Harsens Island with his brothers, Kent and Arthur Jr., where his love for the water began. At the age of 10, he built his first boat, a 14-foot Chris Craft kit boat, alongside his father and brother — a milestone that sparked a lifelong passion.
Skip fell in love with sailing as a young man, a passion that led him to compete in 18 Port Huron to Mackinac races and 5 Chicago to Mackinac races. His time on the water brought him great joy, lasting friendships, and countless stories.
Professionally, Skip started out in Advertising. He quickly pivoted to build a successful career in the steel industry beginning in the 1970s, leading to the launch of his own steel testing laboratory, which he owned and operated for over 20 years. He sat on the board of directors for Penrickton Center for Blind Children. He was a member of the Dearborn Kiwanis Club for over 40 years. He was widely respected for his work ethic, knowledge, and integrity.
A true Detroit sports enthusiast, Skip was a lifelong Detroit Red Wings fan and rarely missed a game. But above all else, his greatest joy was his family — especially his five grandchildren, who were the pride of his life.
Skip and Susan were together for over 50 years. He will be remembered for his warmth, consideration, sense of humor, community service and unwavering love for his family. Skip was one of a kind and a true friend.
A celebration of life will be held at the TPC Michigan Dearborn on Saturday November 29, 2025 open house from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penrickton Center for Blind Children in Skip’s honor.
