James R. Schwalm

March 11, 1960 — January 4, 2026

Highland, Mi.

James R. Schwalm (65), lovingly known as Jim or Jimmy, passed away peacefully on January 4th, 2026. He was a loving father, a devoted son, and a cherished brother. Jim found peace and joy in spending Sundays on his lakefront deck, watching NASCAR races, cheering on Detroit sports, and he avidly enjoyed watching soccer.

A passionate cook, Jim loved preparing meals for family, friends, and those in need, with a special fondness for cooking for his mother. He shared special cooking moments with his son, creating lasting memories. As a mechanic by trade, he was always the go-to person whenever anyone needed help with their car, and he generously lent a hand to his neighbors.

Jim’s warmth and kindness shone through in everything he did, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his son, J.R. (Sonny); his mother, Theresa Schwalm; his siblings, Theresa Johnson (Steve), Colleen Penn (Tom), and Mary Bagazinski (Pete); the mother of his son, Jackie; his uncle David Ward; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Rd., Livonia, Monday, January 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM with a visitation starting at 10:30 AM.
