Jane C. McKee

Jane C McKee, a woman of remarkable grace, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2026, at the age of 101.

Born on July 25, 1924, in Birmingham, Michigan, Jane was the daughter of the late Rebecca Clarke McKee and John McKee. She grew up in Birmingham and was a graduate of Baldwin High School. Jane attended the University of Michigan and earned a Master of Education from Stanford University. Jane had a distinguished career in education in Great Neck, New York. Upon retirement, she returned to Birmingham and lived out her days in “Little San Francisco”.

Jane was an active member of Birmingham First United Methodist Church and the Birmingham Bloomfield Historical Society.

Jane’s spirit was defined by a love of learning, the arts, and an eagerness to try new things. Whether it was an "afternoon adventure," travel to a new destination, or exploring the arts, Jane embraced life with open arms. She was a longtime supporter of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and community theater.

Jane was an active soul. She was a tennis player and a golfer who appreciated both the game and the company. Jane was a member of the Birmingham Tennis Club and frequented Springdale golf course where she first learned the game. Jane had a passion for nature that was perhaps best reflected in her green thumb; she was a longtime member and dedicated volunteer gardener at Cranbrook House and Gardens.

Jane was preceded in death by beloved siblings: Robert N. (Wanda) McKee, John Jr. (Eleanor “Sally”) McKee, and Marge A. (Elmer) Beers. She is survived by her extended family, dear neighbors, and a wide circle of treasured friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Jane’s "chosen family" – the close friends whose devotion allowed her to maintain her cherished (and fierce) independent lifestyle until the very end.
