John Komeshak 1933-2025
John (Jack) Edward Komeshak, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025 in Sterling Heights.
Jack was born on August 27, 1933, in Detroit Mi, to John and Ann Komeshak, the second of three boys. They lived most of their lives on Cadillac St. in Detroit. Jack, his brother Bill, and their lifelong friend Tony Cianfarani were close from childhood, and the three joined the navy in 1952. They traveled the world together in the same fleet, collecting stories and memories.
Jack was discharged in May 1956, and began his career as a draftsman at TACOM, where he met Rita Forstner. They married in August 1959.
Jack and Rita lived in Warren Michigan, with their three children. In the 1980s, Jack and Rita purchased waterfront property in Cedarville, MI—fulfilling a lifelong dream of Jack’s. He personally designed and built the cottage from the ground up, creating a place where his family could gather and make memories for generations. He was deeply proud of what he had built, and the home quickly became a beloved retreat for the entire family.
Jack was devoted to his family. You could always find him working in the garage, the basement or his backyard shed. He loved Red Wing Hockey, going to the casino, playing cards, and fishing off his dock, trying to catch the elusive Louie the Lunker.
Jack is survived by his three children, Julie (Walter) Hampel, Linda (Henry “Chip”) Irwin, and Edward (Shelley) Komeshak. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Zachary (Jenna) Hampel, Thomas (AKA “Rocky”) Hampel, Brittney Workens, Brett Workens, Mary Katherine Komeshak, Lauren Komeshak, and great-grandchildren, Ezekiel and Ezra Hampel and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was Rita, his wife of 65 years, his beloved parents John and Ann, his in-laws George and Mary Forstner, his adored great-grandson Brayden Mark Workens, his brothers William and Richard, and lifelong friends, Tony and Ellen Cianfarani.
The interment of his ashes will be at Great Lakes Cemetery, Holly MI, at a future date.
