Mark R. Abele

Age 74, died in Garden City, MI on January 27, 2026. Mark was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a devoted son, and a cherished brother.

A native of Detroit, Mark believed in working hard and playing hard, and after 30 years at General Motors, he retired at age 48. He was a natural athlete, able to play most any sport on the first try, and he excelled at the sports he loved: bowling, golf, and water skiing.

Passionate about natural foods and remedies, he was always discovering more, and earnestly shared that knowledge with those around him. His gentle heart was as big as his smile; he was always glad to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors, and any project he took on was done to perfection.

Mark will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Janice (née Crisafi) Abele, his children Dawn (Tony) Muccino and Daniel Venchenko (fiancé Bre Namys); his brother Philip (Maureen) Abele, sisters Maureen Abele and Lisa Abele, brother-in-law David Crisafi, sister-in-law Karen Crisafi (Mike Wenner), and grandsons Aidan, Dylan, and Ashton Muccino. He also leaves behind dozens of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Gilbert and June Abele, and his infant brother, Matthew Abele.

A celebration of Mark’s unique life journey will be held at a later date.
