Grossbart, Mary Spilkin, passed away June 30, 2009 at the age of 96. Mother of Ted (Rosely) Grossbart, PHD of Marblehead, MA, and the late Elaine Etkin. Mother–in-law of Asher Etkin. Grandmother of Daniel (Geri) and Benjamin Etkin, Zachary (Mary) and Matthew Grossbart, Great grandmother of Audra and Michael. Sister of Judy Stillman, Shirley Verier and the late June Cole, Anne Sallen and DoDo Stein. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mrs Grossbart graduated from Wayne State University and taught at Breitmeyer and St. Clair Schools in Detroit. She was also a teacher of English as a second language at International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit, as an employee of Detroit Public Schools from 1959 to 1982. She was a founding member of MITESOL (Michigan Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and served on the Executive Committee and as the Membership Chairperson. She was also a founder of the Jewish Parents Institute, and served on many of the committees, Governing Board, and as Vice President. She also served on the Board of Directors of Pendleton Club Condo Association of Farmington Hills, MI. At her request, no services were held.
