Robert William Graf

October 10, 1934 — February 14, 2026

Dearborn, MI

Robert William Graf, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, after a long life filled with love and family. Born Oct. 10, 1934, in Detroit, Robert was the beloved son of German immigrants Ernst and Maria 'Mary' (nee Wolf) Graf, both now deceased. As a first-generation American, Robert carried forward his family’s legacy with pride and dedication.

Robert met the love of his life, Carol Ann Peters, on a blind date that led to a remarkable 71-year marriage. Together they raised three children, Wesley (Stephanie), Christine (Glenn) and Suzanne (Steve), first in Sterling Heights before moving to Grosse Pointe Woods. Over the years, Robert took great pride in his growing family. He cherished his grandchildren, Emily (De’Rhon), Erica (Tyler), Mitchell (Brooke), Jack, Kellan and Hadley.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Robert served his country overseas before earning his journeyman card and beginning a long career in the tool-and-die industry. He was a hardworking, loyal employee of Distel Tool & Die, one of Detroit’s oldest and most recognized die makers until its closure in 1992. He continued his career and eventually retired from Active Tool & Die.

Robert’s technical mastery wasn’t limited to his career work. He found great joy in his basement workshop, where he poured his heart into countless projects. Whether building a two-story backyard playhouse, complete with a working doorbell, or an intricate dollhouse, Robert was a visionary who delighted his children and grandchildren with whimsical creations. His creativity and attention to detail left lasting memories and tangible tokens of his love in all who knew him. Outside of his workshop, Robert loved photography, biking, swimming and taking his family on vacations, including annual camping trips to Pinery Provincial Park in Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada.

Robert was predeceased by his father, Ernst Julius Graf; mother, Maria 'Mary' (nee Wolf) Graf; brother, Ernest Herbert Graf; and brothers-in-law, William Henning Peters and Thomas Henry Peters. He will be remembered for his unwavering love, skillful hands and the strong legacy he leaves behind in his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Für immer in unseren Herzen.
