Obituary of Roger Sherman Derby


Derby, The Rev. Roger S. On March 19, 2016 at home in Bloomfield Hills, at age 81. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Hamilton College and the Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA. He served churches in upstate New York and was Rector of All Saints' Episcopal Church, Pontiac from 1974 - 1992. He was Interim Rector for several parishes in the Diocese of Michigan until retirement in 1998. A resident of Pontiac for 38 years, he served one term on the Pontiac Board of Education, and one term as Trustee of the Pontiac Public Library. He was a board member of Pontiac Ecumenical Ministry during the mid-1970's when it developed community outreach programs, including the Lighthouse of Oakland County. Survived by his wife of 55 years Nancy (Tyner); daughters Sarah (Jeffrey Kob) Derby of San Francisco and Martha (Nikola) Colton of New York City; grandchildren Rachel and Stefan Colton, Emma and Elliott Kob; brother Joel (Bonnie Beth) Derby of Seattle; niece and nephews. On Saturday, April 23 at 2:00 pm, a memorial service will be held at All Saints' Church, 171 West Pike Street, Pontiac. The family will greet people at 1:00 pm and there will be a reception at the church afterwards. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to All Saints' Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 430357, Pontiac MI 48343.
