Rudy passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 31, 2016, at age 85.
"Rudy was one of a kind." Those of us that loved him and knew him can appreciate (and laugh) at that statement. We loved him for his generosity and unique wit. We also understood "Rudy being Rudy", and that too, was part of his charm.
Rudy was a complete character who loved his Country, family and friends deeper than most would ever know. He loved being direct with his opinions and stayed true to his beliefs regardless of what others thought about him. He was proud to have served in the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW. Rudy loved 'holding court' on his front porch all summer long with his little outdoor fridge at the ready with beer and water for whomever might stop by for a visit. He loved puttering around with plants and flowers to attract hummingbirds in hopes they would frequent his garden. He loved his road-trips, especially 'up-North' to Boyne Falls, where his grand-parents settled upon emigrating from Poland. The Hofbrauhaus in Munich was one of Rudy's favorite places; he never got tired of entering what he considered to be the hallowed walls of the best beer garden anywhere! Whether it was with is buddies at the VFW club, in a beer garden on the other side of the World, with his family up-North, or with his family and neighbors on the front porch, Rudy simply loved being around people who were having a good time; it would recharge his batteries and kept him 'young'.
Rudy is survived by his daughter Nadine Purdon, his sister Betty, his brothers Walt and Don, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many special neighbors and friends. We will (all) miss him deeply. For those of you who knew Rudy, please raise your glass; Rudy would appreciate a good toast in his honor!
