Obituary of Sharlene Kae Smalley

Sharlene Kae Smalley was born in Reed City, MI, January 24, 1948 to Herman Peepers and Florence Stube and raised in St. Johns, MI by her mother and adoptive father, Dean Wilkie. She died at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, June 17, 2013.

Sherrie graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Class of 1966 and went to work immediately for Michigan State University where she remained until her retirement 41 years later.

In 1974 she married Larry W. Smalley and was blessed with two children, Kelly (Brant) Yarger, and Larry Jr. She also leaves three grand children who adore her and who she couldn't do enough for; Zachary, Sydney, and Mitchell Yarger.

Sherrie was an active member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 116 and was a member of the Academy of Friendship and of the College of Regents. She also loved to travel with her husband and went on several cruises, several trips to Hawaii, and other family vacations. At one point they had a seasonal camp site at Horsehead Lake which they kept for several years before they began their traveling.

At Sherrie's request, there will be no services. She wanted everyone who knew her to remember her during the good times and lift a glass in toast to her spirit and wish her God Speed on her next journey.

The family would also like to express their extreme gratitude to the wonderful staff of care givers at the Sparrow Hospital Neuro-intensive Care Unit for the loving attention they gave Sherrie during her long stay there and also to Hospice House.
