Shirley was born September 8, 1932 to Herbert and Catherine Schmittling. She was baptized in November 1932 at St. Matthew Lutheran in Detroit where she attended grade school through 8th grade and was confirmed in 1945. Shirley graduated high school in 1950 from Mackenzie HS in Detroit.
Shirley and Andrew Sroka were married March 15, 1952. Andy and Shirley were blessed with three children - Lynn, Kim and Craig.
Shirley remained a member of St. Matthew her adult life and both her and Andy were longtime active choir members and Shirley also enjoyed being part of the women's softball team at St. Matthew.
Shirley graduated from University of Michigan Dearborn in the mid-70's with a Masters degree in Education. Shirley and Andy moved to Naples Florida in the mid-1980's and resided there until moving back to Michigan in 1999. While in Florida, Shirley worked as a Teachers Aide and Librarian Assistant. Upon returning to Michigan, Shirley enjoyed playing pool and going to the Community Center in Westland. Shirley remained a faithful member of Our Saviour Lutheran until her death.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Andy and brothers Herbert (Junior). and Douglas. Shirley is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and four great great children including:
Daughter Lynn Cherundolo (Husband Jim), grandchildren Jessica (Jim Allgood), Amanda Cherundolo (Seth Goldman), Kenneth Johnson (Lauren) and Stacey Courtney, Daughter Kim Lupa, grandchildren Kevin Santa (Vickie) and Ryan Santa (Amelia) Son Craig Sroka, Great grandchildren include Gabrielle (Nick Bravo), Aaron and Gavin Courtney, Luke and Avery Johnson, Lyla and Isabel Santa Great great grandchildren include Violet and Lucy Bravo and Kathlynn and Maisey Courtney. In addition, Shirley is survived by her brother and sister in law Roger and Darlene Schmittling and their families LeighAnn and (Den)i Giannadrea and Andrea Schmittling and great nieces Taylor and Brooke and great nephew Leland.
Shirley would have been 94 in two days and her family knows that her and Andy are reunited in heaven and will be harmonizing while singing Happy Birthday on Tuesday!
