Thomas Douglass Mullin

Thomas Douglass Mullin, 80, of Redford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, at Garden City Hospital. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 11, 1945, to Stanley and Tommie Sue Mullin.

Thomas proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army for ten years. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to the City of Detroit as a Civil Engineer. A lifelong learner, Thomas earned two master’s degrees, one from the University of Michigan and the other from Wayne State University.

Thomas had many passions, but perhaps none brought him more pride and joy than his beloved 1916 Ford Model T. He treasured his Model T and was a proud member of the Model T Club of America, the Piquette T’s, and numerous other automotive clubs, where he enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for these remarkable pieces of automotive history.

He also loved to travel, especially taking river cruises and exploring new places. He had a curious and creative mind and spent many hours working on various computer projects, reading, and enjoying all things locomotive-related. Thomas always enjoyed the challenge of learning something new.

Thomas was a devoted husband, father, son, uncle, brother-in-law, grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared 16 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sandra Zahrfeld. He was the father of Alan (Nora) and stepfather of Brianna and Sabrina (Justin). He was a proud grandfather to Charlotte, Nathan, and George, who brought him great joy and happiness.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Tommie Sue; his first wife of 38 years, Karen Mullin; and his brother, Michael (Nancy).

Thomas is survived by his siblings, Rosemary and Stan (Carol), as well as many other cousins and close friends he met throughout his lifetime.

Thomas will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his overwhelming kindness, which some claim was his greatest trait. He will also be remembered for his service to his country and community, his love of travel and technology, and especially his enduring passion for his 1916 Model T. His curiosity, accomplishments, stories, and love for those around him will remain a cherished part of his family’s memories.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
