Obituary of Virginia L. Chisnell

Virginia L. Chisnell Died April 23, 2014 Age 92 of Troy. Beloved wife of Dean Chisnell. Loving mother of Jeanne (Louis) Havens. Adoring grandmother to Jennifer.

Ginny was born in McPeherson, Kansas. Through a chance encounter in Salina, Kansas during his training to become a bombardier in WWII, she met Dean. They married in 1944, eventually moving to the Chisnell family homestead in Dearborn, Michigan. They finally settled in northwest Detroit, raising their daughter Jeanne. Dean was a long time Chrysler employee in Photographic Services.

Ginny became extremely active as a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 1497. Her amazing spirit and leadership, curiosity of the world drove she and the girls to many places and activities. They traveled to the International Girl Scout Hostel in Cunervaca, Mexico, led many a service project, spent many a weekend camping. Of note, Troop 1497 successfully petitioned the local Girl Scout Council to begin the creation of "My Own Troop" badges because they had completed all the existing badges from the handbook. This is now standard.

In 1963 they moved to Troy, building a new custom home. Ginny began to work as a receptionist/bookkeeper in the medical profession. Ginny and Dean travelled extensively, exploring the States as well as Europe, Asia and Africa.

They retired in 1985, wintering in Naples, Florida and summering in their Troy home. Life was full of friends, gardening and yard projects, Ginny's love of "picking and poking" as she called it amazing knitting, needlework and other stitchery projects.

Her joy, energy and creativity will be long remembered.
